Hempstead FFA Dairy Judging Team Wins First at Houston

This is the image for the news article titled Hempstead FFA Dairy Judging Team Wins First at HoustonThe Hempstead FFA Dairy Cattle judging team won 1st place at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Dairy Judging Contest on Saturday, March 25. There were 72 4-H and FFA teams competing in the senior division and 217 individual contestants. The team won belt buckles and two team trophies.

For the second year in a row, Alex Schmidt was the first place high point individual overall with a total score of 341 for the day. Schmidt received a plaque, belt buckle and a $500 gift certificate from I W Marks Jewelers.

Jessica Harvey was 5th place high point individually and received a plaque. Other members of the first place team were Justin Herbert, Makayla Wawarofsky and Zach Pirkle.

FFA Advisor Todd Thiel was proud of the way the team finished this year at Houston and is looking forward to future contests this spring. The team is busy preparing for upcoming events in April with hopes of qualifying for the State FFA Dairy Judging Contest.
