As a new teacher of the month at Hempstead ISD, she received a #risktaker t-shirt donated by MaBisha Stubblefield and a certificate to display in her room.

Volkmer is a new teacher to the district and is stationed at the Early Childhood Center. “She started in our district as a PK3 teacher and made the change to a PK4 teacher within the same week,” said Melissa Skinner, Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction. “She was willing to make the change with a smile on her face” said Skinner. “During Hurricane Harvey Mrs. Volkmer hurt her foot while helping someone in need, but that did not slow her down; she was back at school doing what she does best ... teaching Pre-K with a positive attitude,” said Skinner.

Volkmer has been working with children for over two decades as a preschool teacher within daycare centers and in administration as a center director. She is a 2017 graduate of Grand Canyon University where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Early Education. She is also a certified medical assistant.

Volkmer was thankful to be recognized for her passion as a teacher. She said her inspiration to work in the education field was her kindergarten teacher, who she refers to as Mary Poppins because of her genuine personality and ability to enlighten her students with her talents. “She always greeted me at the door, shared educational activities and was very passionate about her students,” said Volkmer. “She truly gave me my love for teaching and I find myself following in her footsteps with the goal of one day becoming a kindergarten teacher as well and making a difference in my students’ futures too.”

As a PK4 teacher, Volkmer said she is blessed to share in each student’s achievements and looks forward to seeing them grow. “This may be my first year teaching in a school district, but this has been a lifelong career of working with young students,” she said. Volkmer said she is enthusiastic about her position at the early childhood center and hopes to share her acquired skills and talents. “I am excited to learn more as I work alongside all of the fantastic teachers at Hempstead ISD,” she said. “This is an adventure I am proud to be a part of.”

Congratulations to Christine Volkmer for being recognized as a New Teacher of the Month at Hempstead ISD!
