Rosa Villalta Recognized as Secondary New Teacher of the Month at HISD

As a new teacher of the month at Hempstead ISD, she received a #risktaker t-shirt donated by MaBisha Stubblefield (Bisha’s Bling), a $50 Mary Kay gift certificate donated by Jackie Craver and a certificate to display in her room.

Villalta was honored to receive the award. “I have a great group of kids that I truly enjoy working with,” she said.

Villalta is a new teacher at Hempstead Middle School who currently teaches 8th grade US History. “Ms. Rosa Villalta is a true gem,” said Melissa Skinner, HISD Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction. “We are so glad she joined our HISD team.” According to Skinner, Villalta’s students are always actively engaged. “She brings Social Studies to life and makes the content relevant,” said Skinner. “She seeks out new techniques to use in her classroom and always has a smile on her face. She has a growth mindset and wants to see our students grow academically. She truly goes the extra mile to ensure our students are being successful in Social Studies,” said Skinner.

“Mrs. Villalta is a valuable member of the Middle School Social Studies team,” said HISD’s K-12 Social Studies Coach Debra Woolley. According to Woolley, Villalta makes every effort to support and encourage each of her students. “She is willing to take risks, step out of her comfort zone and take the lead for the team,” said Woolley. “It is my pleasure to work with Mrs. Villalta as she strives to create an environment of excellence in 8th grade US History.”

Villalta is a graduate of Sam Houston State University and plans to return to SHSU for her masters within the next year.
