Shereditthe Brockett Recognized as Secondary New Teacher of the Month at HISD

As a new teacher of the month at Hempstead ISD, she received a #risktaker t-shirt donated by MaBisha Stubblefield (Bisha’s Bling), a $50 Mary Kay gift certificate donated by Jackie Craver and a certificate to display in her room.

“Mrs. Brockette brings excitement and energy into the classroom,” said Secondary ELA Coach Mary Bethel. According to Bethel, Brockett is not afraid to take risks and allows students to write their own plays. “She uses interactive grammar in the classroom which involves grammar and movements,” said Bethel. “She works hard to engage students.”

Brockett is a new teacher at Hempstead High School who currently teaches English I. “Ms. Brockett builds great relationships with students,” said Melissa Skinner, HISD Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction. “She seeks out ways to engage her students through technology and interactive grouping activities. She is willing to go above and beyond her English I assignment with coaching our high school cheerleaders,” said Skinner. “We are glad Ms. Brockett joined the HISD team!”

Brockett, a first year teacher, graduated from Pace University in New York in 2011. “It feels great to win New Teacher of the Month,” said Brockett. “It makes me feel that my hard work is being noticed and that the students are benefiting from my instruction.”

In addition to teaching English I, Brockett is the high school cheer coach. According to Brockett, her biggest accomplishment is when she started the first competitive Special Needs Cheer Team in the State of Texas at the age of 16. During her second year with the team, the Lone Stars received a 3rd place trophy at the National Cheerleading Association competition where they competed against similar teams. Brockett said the team is still running to this day as part of Texas Lonestar Cheer.
