Bobcats and Ladycats Advance to Regional and Set School Records

This is the image for the news article titled Bobcats and Ladycats Advance to Regional and Set School RecordsHempstead High School is proud to announce that the Varsity Boys and Varsity Girls Cross Country teams advanced to regional after placing in the District Cross Country Meet held at Hempstead High School on Wednesday, October 11.

Both teams set a school record for teams advancing in a cross country event. “In the past fifteen years, we have had individuals advance to regional from time to time but not as a team,” said Athletic Director Bobby Spain.

The varsity boys team, consisting of Eduardo Alcaraz, Carson Longa, Alex Munos, Nayel Novelo, Vicente Duarte, and Diego Rodriguez, advanced to regional with their 2nd place finish at district.

The varsity girls team, consisting of San Juanita Hernandez, Amy Jimenez, Sally Pacheco, Aneliz Rodriguez, and Kiara Lozano, advanced to regional with their 3rd place team finish at district.

Individually, two Ladycat runners advanced to regional after finishing in the top ten individually for the day. Kiara Lozano placed 3rd individually and advanced to regional while Aneliz Rodriguez placed 8th to advance to regional.

Two Bobcat runners also advanced to regional based on their individual finish. Alex Munos placed 7th and Diego Rodriguez placed 10th to advance to regional.

In JV action, Cesia Alvarez finished 3rd place in girls cross country and Gracie Anaya finished in 9th place.

In Cross Country events, the girls run two miles and the boys run three miles. The top ten in each category advance receive medals.

The regional meet was held on Monday, October 23, at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville and all the runners competed well.
