Delarrin Turner-Yell, a junior at Hempstead High School, qualified for state in the 200 meter dash and will compete at the 3A State Track & Field Meet in Austin on Saturday, May 13.

Nine athletes from Hempstead High School competed at the regional meet on April 28 & 29 in five different events for a chance to advance to state.

In Bobcat action, advancing to regional in individual events were Delarrin Turner-Yell (200m dash) and Jaylin Thomas (100m dash). Advancing to regional in relay events were the 4x100 Relay (Jonathon Thomas, Jaylin Thomas, Da’Quan Lattimore, Delarrin Turner-Yell) and 4x200 Relay Delarrin Turner-Yell, Ahmad Banks, Jaylin Thomas, Da’Quan Lattimore).

In Ladycat action, the 4x100 Relay (Michelle Carrillo, Dereishia Davis, Jas'Lyn Glover, Jakayla Thomas) advanced to regional. Christa Middleton and Keyonna Harris were alternates to the relay team.

In other track news...
The Hempstead Track & Field team competed in the Rice Meet on Thursday, March 2, and did well.

In girls action, the Ladycats finished in 3rd place at the meet.  Individual event results were as follows:

4x1 Relay (Christa Middleton, Dereishia Davis, Keyonna Harris, Jakayla Thomas) FIRST place

4x2 Relay  (Christa Middleton, Dereishia Davis, Keyonna Harris, Jakayla Thomas) FIRST place

800 Kiara Lozano FIRST place

100 Christa Middleton FIRST place (tied)

100 Keyonna Harris FOURTH place

200 Dereishia Davis SECOND place

200 Jakayla Thomas FOUTH place
