Health & Welfare of our Hempstead ISD Family

The health and welfare of our students, staff and community is very important to us.  Hempstead ISD follows the guidance and expertise of national and local health officials to help protect our students and staff from all communicable diseases.  Hempstead ISD actively coordinates with state and local health authorities as well as the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to closely monitor any illness that may affect our school and community.

The CDC is closely monitoring an outbreak of respiratory illness (COVID-19) caused by a novel (new) coronavirus.  According to the CDC, COVID-19 coronavirus is spread in the same was as the flu. Families are encouraged to visit the CDC website for more information and travel guidelines regarding the Coronavirus.

As a reminder, the CDC encourages these daily healthy habits to prevent the spread of germs:

  • Wash hand often with soap and water for 20 seconds; if not available, use an alcohol-based sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces daily.
