Hempstead Reads Spring Break Reading Challenge

Posted Date: 03/10/2023

March is National Literacy Month. Hempstead ISD is excited to spring into reading with the Hempstead Reads Spring Break Reading Challenge. The initiative is to promote literacy and reading during spring break and encourage students to read as much as possible during their time off from school.

The reading challenge is a partnership between Footsteps2Brillance, a literacy app available to all Hempstead residents from birth to third grade. The program offers a variety of incentives to encourage students to read, including prizes, certificates, and recognition for those who meet certain reading goals.

To participate in the challenge, students must download the Footsteps2Brillance app and log in using their school credentials. They will then have access to a variety of reading materials, including books, articles, and games, all designed to help them improve their literacy skills. The app also tracks students' reading progress, allowing them to earn rewards as they reach certain milestones.

Join the challenge and read for at least 15 minutes a day. Students/Families can log in to from their computer or download the free app from a smart device. Parents can create a free parent account and accounts for their unenrolled children by visiting

In addition to the incentives offered through the app, Hempstead ISD is offering students prizes for reading.
