Summer Update from The Superintendent, July 11

Dear Team Hempstead,

Happy Summer Bobcats! I hope you are resting and enjoying your time off this summer. Summer school has wrapped up and it is important for all of our Bobcat staff to take some time to focus on ourselves so that we are all able to give our best when school starts in August. Now I know you are thinking, why is he writing to us while we are trying to take time away from work. Honestly, I’ve missed the campus hallways full of staff and students and I wanted to provide you with a few summer updates.

I want to reiterate my earlier communication and give kudos to our HISD Board of Trustees for approving all employee raises for the 2022-2023 school year. I am so thankful that they care so much about our Bobcat staff.

As we continue to reimagine Hempstead I was told that many of you are excited about the You Talk, I Listen feedback meeting. Unfortunately, COVID-19 reared its ugly head. I got it and I was unable to facilitate the meeting. The good news is I am better and we have already determined a new date. The meeting will now be held on Wednesday, July 13. There is no cap on the number of people that can attend. I want as many people to participate as possible. We will move the location if we need to accommodate more people.

In addition to receiving feedback from you and our wonderful community, I have received quality feedback from our Senior Leadership Team in a series of meetings called “Reimagine Hempstead.” The honest feedback was well received and will help spearhead a number of initiatives to move Hempstead ISD forward.

There are many exciting events coming up in August. Summer Staff Development is gearing up and programming will kick off Monday, August 8 with on-campus Professional Learning led by your campus principal. Our official Hempstead ISD school year will kick off with Convocation on Tuesday, August 9. I can’t wait to see everyone together.

Additional Upcoming Events:

  • Aug. 1-2 -  Back to School Registration Event

  • Aug. 4-5 - New Teacher Orientation

  • Aug. 8-19 - Summer Staff Development/Professional Learning

  • Aug. 9 - Convocation

  • Aug. 17 - Meet the Bobcats

  • Aug. 18 - Meet the Teacher

  • Aug. 22 - First Day of School

Again, I hope that you are enjoying your summer break. I will provide you with more summer updates throughout the month.
