Voting Eligibility

Anyone who is a registered voter and lives within the Hempstead ISD boundaries is eligible to vote in the 2024 bond election. Deadline to Register to Vote in the May 4 Election: Thursday, April 4, 2024

To be eligible to register in Texas, individuals must meet the following criteria:
- be a U.S. citizen;
- be a resident of the county;
- be 18 years old (you may register at 17 years and 10 months);
- not a convicted felon (unless a person's sentence is completed, including any probation or parole)
- not declared mentally incapacitated by a court of law

  • Recently moved to Hempstead ISD? Update your address on file with the County Elections Office.

  • Recently turned 18? You can vote in this election if you registered by April 4, 2024.

  • Recently became a US citizen? You can vote in this election if you registered by April 4, 2024.

  • Never voted but want to vote in the future? Have your voice heard!

Visit votetexas.gov to start your voter registration application. To vote in the May 4, 2024 bond election, you must be a registered voter with a Hempstead ISD address by April 4, 2024.

Voting by Mail

To submit your ballot by mail, you must meet the following criteria set by the state:

  • 65 years or older;

  • Sick or disabled;

  • Expected to give birth within three weeks before or after Election Day;

  • Out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting

  • Civilly committed under Chapter 841 of the Texas Health and Safety Code; or

  • Confined in jail, but otherwise eligible.
