Hempstead ISD Chief Communications Officer, Valonia Walker, APR, has been named a recipient of the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) 35 Under 35 Award. This prestigious award recognizes young professionals in the field of school communications who have made significant contributions to their profession and demonstrated exceptional promise for the future.
Walker joined Hempstead ISD in June of 2022 and has been instrumental in elevating the district's communication efforts, ensuring the community is informed and engaged in the district's programs and initiatives. She is leading the implementation of a district communication plan, which includes utilizing social media and other digital platforms to engage with stakeholders and executing successful strategic communication strategies.
"Valonia is a rising star in the field of school communications and we are proud to have her on our team," Hempstead ISD Superintendent, Herbert O’Neil said. "She brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and passion to her role and has made a significant impact on our district and the students we serve. I am thankful we have someone of her caliber working with us in Hempstead ISD. We are blessed!”
Walker will be honored during the NSPRA National Conference, which will be held in St. Louis, Missouri in July. This conference is the premier event for school communicators, bringing together professionals from across the country to share best practices, learn from expert speakers, and network with colleagues.

Walker is a proud graduate of Baylor University, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, and Texas Tech University, where she received a master's degree in Strategic Communication and Innovation. She is also Accredited in Public Relations (APR) through the Public Relations Society of America.
