Hempstead ISD has named Camirey Jackson, the new Hempstead High School head girls track coach. Jackson has called Hempstead ISD home since beginning her career in education. As she enters her fourth year of teaching, she is excited to lead the Lady Bobcats track athletes.
Jackson is a Prairie View A&M University graduate, where she received her bachelor’s degree in Human Performance and her master’s degree in Educational Administration. Most recently Jackson has served as the Hempstead Elementary School physical education teacher, the Hempstead High School cheerleading coach, and assistant girls track coach.
She is a two-time Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) champion, Level 1 Track & Field certified, and was a member of the Prairie View A&M University Women’s Track & Field team from 2013-2017.
During her time in Hempstead, she has helped lead track and field student-athletes to advance to Regionals and State. In the spring of 2022, one of her athletes became a state medalist in the 400-meter race. Jackson also founded the Hempstead Track Club. In 2021, five of her Track Club athletes were AAU National Qualifiers, and in 2022 16 athletes were AAU National Qualifiers.
“I look forward to making a bigger impact on the student-athletes at Hempstead High School,” Jackson said. “My hope is that the talented young ladies in girl's track will continue to succeed and keep making appearances at area, regionals, and state meets.”
Jackson also hopes to give her team opportunities that will go beyond the high school track. She plans on guiding them through the recruiting process that focuses on both academics and athletic achievements, where they can find a track family on the collegiate level. She also looks forward to building a strong bond with the team by creating a winning atmosphere that focuses on goals, leadership, and family.
