Hempstead High School Junior Wins Watermelon Festival Queen

Congratulations to the newly crowned Hempstead Watermelon Festival Queen Haley Carter. Haley is a junior student at Hempstead High School, where she participates in Varsity cross country and soccer. During the competition, Haley sold 7,500 tickets and received $2,250 in sponsorships. After winning the title of Hempstead Watermelon Festival Queen, Haley received a $1,500 scholarship and a $1,000 check. 

Haley was excited to be crowned as the Hempstead Watermelon Queen. Once she graduates high school she wants to attend Texas A&M University and study to be a veterinarian or a marine biologist. She is passionate about helping animals and others. Haley hopes to serve as a role model for her peers and the young girls and boys throughout the community. Haley wants the community to know that you can make a big difference in your school and community.

The Watermelon Festival court contestants collectively raised $38,000 to go back into the community.
