Before the start of the October 17 Board meeting, students from Hempstead Elementary School led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Pledge to the Texas Flag. The pledges were led by students from Valarie Minor’s Third Grade class. During the board meeting, Hempstead ISD Superintendent Herbert O’Neil recognized the Superintendent’s Higher Heights Award recipient and the Hempstead ISD Principals. Superintendent O’Neil also presented his Superintendent Entrance Update during the meeting.

October Superintendent’s Higher Heights Award Recipient
Superintendent O’Neil named Hempstead Elementary School third-grade bilingual teacher, Ilse Esqueda, the Superintendent’s Higher Heights award recipient of the month. Esqueda was nominated by one of her student’s parents. She was honored and received a plaque for her dedication and service to the students and staff in Hempstead ISD.
National Principals Month
During the meeting, Superintendent O’Neil recognized National Principals Month. Each principal was thanked for their contributions and commitment to ensuring the best outcomes for all students.
Monthly Staff Recognitions
Hempstead Early Childhood School principal, Keri Houston, recognized Marisha Jordan as the October HECC Teacher of the Month and Blanca Tejeda as the October HECC Para of the Month.
Hempstead Elementary School principal, Dr. Brittanee Shiflett, recognized Tabitha Collins as the October HES Teacher of the Month and Sandra Alvarez as the October HES Para of the Month.
Hempstead Middle School principal, Dr. Rhonda Smith, recognized Sharon Robertson as the October HMS Teacher of the Month and Shawntina Lewis as the October HMS Para of the Month.
Hempstead High School principal, Samantha Mullens, recognized Pamela Wise as the October HHS Teacher of the Month and Marccellette Jeffrey as the October HHS Para of the Month.

Approved the Leaf Engineers Contract for consultant services on ESSER II Projects.
Approved the revised ESSER A/C Replacement Project and additional warranty information.
Approved the 2022-2023 Hempstead ISD District Improvement Plan.
Approved the 2022-2023 Hempstead Early Childhood Center Campus Improvement Plan.
Approved the 2022-2023 Hempstead Elementary School Improvement Plan.
Approved the 2022-2023 Hempstead Middle School Improvement Plan.
Approved the 2022-2023 Hempstead High School Improvement Plan.
Approved the 2022-2023 Administrative-Professional/Auxillary Compensation and Stipend Plan.
Approved the 2022-2023 Teacher Salary Schedule.
