The Hempstead ISD Board of Trustees met on Monday, November 14.
Before the start of the November 14 Board meeting, students from Hempstead Early Childhood Center led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Pledge to the Texas Flag. The pledges were led by students from Sandra Lozano’s pre-k class, Kase Compean, Genysis Torress, Jonathan Adame, and Jasaria Figueroa. During the board meeting, Hempstead ISD Superintendent Herbert O’Neil recognized the Hempstead High School Bobcat Band, the Superintendent’s Higher Heights Award recipient, and the November Students of the Month.

This month Superintendent O’Neil kicked off the Monthly Student of the Month recognition program. Our campuses have selected one student of the month from each grade level to be recognized for their excellence, efforts, and achievement in being outstanding students on campus.

Hempstead High School Bobcat Band
In the last few weeks, the award-winning Hempstead High School Bobcat Band, under the direction of Mr. Ronald Walker, has celebrated several band and individual accomplishments. Not only does the band support our football team throughout the season but they also dedicate time during class and after school to prepare for competition season. Last month, the band received straight one’s at the UIL Marching Contest, held at Waller High School, and most recently, three of the students were selected to perform with the Association of Texas Small School Bands Region 23 All-Region High School band last weekend. Additionally, seven students have advanced to the Association of Texas Small School Bands area/all-state tryout at the top of the year.

November Superintendent’s Higher Heights Award Recipient
Superintendent O’Neil named Hempstead High School Assitant Principal, Lakesha Morgan, the Superintendent’s Higher Heights award recipient of the month. Morgan was nominated by her administrators. She was honored and received a plaque for her dedication and service to the students and staff in Hempstead ISD.
Monthly Staff Recognitions
Hempstead ISD Assistant Superintendent of Learning and Leading, Brittany Anderson, recognized Kassondra Silva, as the November HECC Teacher of the Month and Rebecca Venegas as the November HECC Support Staff of the Month.
Hempstead Elementary School Assistant Principal, Sarah Montes, recognized Felicia Creeks as the November HES Teacher of the Month and Mayda Ibarra as the November HES Support Staff of the Month.
Hempstead Middle School Assistant Principal, Tamaria Holmes, recognized Coach William Wright as the November HMS Teacher of the Month and Scheharyl Fry as the November HMS Support Staff of the Month.
Hempstead High School Assistant Principal, Robert Thomas, recognized Christine Herbert as the November HHS Teacher of the Month and Zobeya Williams as the November Support Staff of the Month.
Trustees Approve Action Items
During the November 14 Board meeting, Hempstead ISD Trustees approved the following action items:
Approved the 2022-2023 Hempstead Elementary School Targeted Improvement Plan
Approved the 2022-2023 Hempstead High School Targeted Improvement Plan
Approved the Board Resolution regarding reimbursement for personal property damaged during the performance of duties.
The December Board meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 19, and will begin at 6 p.m. in the Administration Building Board Room.
