National School Counseling Week, February 6-10, 2023, is a time to celebrate and recognize the hard work of K-12 school counselors. National School Counseling Week highlights the contribution of school counselors and how they positively impact students.
School counselors help students examine their abilities, strengths, interests, and talents. Additionally, counselors partner with teachers and other educators to find positive ways to enhance students’ academic, postsecondary and social/emotional development and provide an educational system where students can realize their potential and set healthy, realistic, and optimistic aspirations for themselves.
School counselors are certified, experienced educators with a master’s degree in school counseling. School counselors are a vital part of the educational process for all students in today’s world. The combination of their training and experience makes them an integral part of a student's educational foundation.
“School counselors work with all students to remove barriers to learning by addressing students’ academic concerns, career options and social/emotional skills,” Jill Cook, American School Counselor Association (ASCA) executive director, said. “School counseling programs help to increase student achievement and provide a much-needed resource for students, parents, teachers and administrators. School counselors are integral to student success.”
We are grateful for all the ways that our school counselors support our students and help them reach their full potential.
