Melissa Hegemeyer, a long-time Hempstead, Texas resident and realtor, was named the January Superintendent’s Higher Heights award recipient.
Hegemeyer has lived in Hempstead for 30 years and has been a realtor for nine years in Waller County. Despite not attending Hempstead ISD schools, she has a close connection to the district. Her favorite part about Hempstead is the way the community comes together to support its youth and those in need. As a friend of the district, Hegemeyer strives to continue developing relationships with Hempstead ISD students, families, schools, and district leaders through various initiatives and programs.
Recently, she helped introduce the community to Hempstead Reads, a new communitywide literacy initiative, led by Hempstead ISD in partnership with Footsteps2Brilliance. Hegemeyer created a space in her office for students to use the reading program and has committed to hosting events for students to focus on reading.
As a realtor, Hegemeyer understands the impact the local school district has on growth within the community. She has partnered with Hempstead ISD in the past, supporting programs such as the culinary arts program and sponsoring Hempstead Theatre Co.
“It is important for me to stay connected with the school district and the Hempstead community, Hegemeyer explained. “My goal is to offer a space where students and residents can come to meet, interact with their neighbors and learn more about the amazing opportunities that are available here in our hometown.”
Currently, Hegemeyer is serving as a member of the Hempstead ISD Strategic Planning Committee and is excited to contribute to taking Hempstead ISD to Higher Heights. She remains committed to the students and families of Hempstead and will continue to be active in the community to help families and businesses with their real estate needs.
“My new office is open for residents to come and interact with their neighbors and learn about the opportunities available in their hometown.”
In addition to her real estate business, Hegemeyer has a long history of volunteering in the community. She has organized the Brazos Valley 4-H Club, served on the Waller County Fair Association Creative Living Building Committee for 20 years and is currently a trustee member of the Waller County Economic Development Partnership and Vice President of HCCA.
Hegemeyer is a dedicated and passionate member of the Hempstead community who is committed to making a positive impact in the lives of its residents and students. Hempstead ISD is honored to recognize her as the first Superintendent’s Higher Heights community member award recipient.
