The Hempstead ISD Board of Trustees met on Monday, April 17.
During the board meeting, Hempstead ISD Superintendent Herbert O’Neil recognized Hempstead ISD Assistant Principals, the Superintendent’s Higher Heights Award recipient, the April Operations Employee of the Month, Campus Teachers and Support Staff of the Month, April Students of the Month, and the April Hempstead Reads Spring Break Reading Challenge Students of the Month.
Superintendent O’Neil kicked off his monthly Superintendent’s Report by recognizing that April 3-7 was National Assistant Principals Week. Assistant Principals are educational leaders who work behind the scenes to ensure our schools run smoothly and that students receive the best possible education.

Operations Employee of the Month
Chief Operations Officer, Eric Mullens, named Hempstead ISD transportation supervisor, Quinn Navarre, as the April Operations Employee of the Month. Navarre received a certificate for his work ethic and dedication to the students and staff of Hempstead ISD.

Trustees Approve Action Items
During the April Board meeting, Hempstead ISD Trustees approved the following action items:
Approved the Foodservice Management Company (FSMC) Contract Renewal for the 2023 - 2024 School Year (SFE - Southwest Foodservice Excellence).
Approved a continued contract with district auditors Weaver and Tidwell, L.L.P. for the 2023 - 2024 school year.
Approved an increase in the Bilingual stipend.
Approved a contractual agreement with Prairie View A&M University for Grant Project (Residency and Educator Prep), delegating authority to the Superintendent to negotiate, finalize and approve terms of the contracts.
The May Board meeting will be held on Monday, May 15, and will begin at 6 p.m. in the Administration Building Board Room.
