Last Fall, the Hempstead ISD Board of Trustees voted to complete a comprehensive, districtwide facilities assessment designed to aid administrators as they prepare to address aging infrastructure across the district. The assessment data will be used to guide the district’s response to maintenance issues, safety concerns, building capacity needs, curriculum, and program alignment. The information will help district officials plan for future capital investments, including those related to student and staff safety, plans to update schools and help administrators plan for future academic programming, student population growth, school capacities, and future school space needs.
After the assessment was complete, the Board charged the Long Range Facility Planning Committee (LRFPC) with developing prioritized and phased plan facility recommendations for the Board of Trustees. The committee met over three months and included 38 various district stakeholders, including teachers, campus staff and administrators, parents, clergy, community members, students, and district leaders. Hempstead ISD administrators served as resources to the committee, providing information and expertise as needed.
The LRFPC began meeting in July to review the recent facilities assessment. This group reviewed the findings from the study, including additional district data, demographic studies, financial forecasts, city and county planning, and campus and department audits, to plan for the community's needs. At the October 16 board meeting, three members of the LRFPC presented the committee recommendations to the board.
Now the Board will meet to discuss, review, and finalize the priority recommendations for adoption. You can review the 2023 LRFPC Board Recommendations and committee work at hempsteadisd.org/lrfpc.
