Sandra Lozano

Sandra Lozano, pre-k teacher at Hempstead Early Childhood Center, has been making an impact on her students, their families, and her colleagues for the past five years. Her background in social work and a passion for working with children and families has not gone unnoticed. She was nominated and chosen to be the October Superintendent’s Higher Heights Award recipient.

Lozano’s journey into education began when she interviewed for a paraprofessional position at Hempstead Early Childhood Center. She was eventually hired as the lead teacher, an opportunity she fully embraced. Lozano explained the District supported her in completing her alternative teacher certification program through Region 4.

Her principal, Keri Houston, explained one of the outstanding qualities that sets her apart is her ability to develop strong relationships with her students, their families, and her colleagues.

“I believe in finding common ground, listening, and being understanding,” Lozano said.

Lozano brings empathy and relatability to her interactions with parents and colleagues, no matter the challenges they may face. She believes in finding something positive in every situation and sharing it with others.

“My favorite part about being a teacher is providing a strong foundation for the future generation academically, socially, and emotionally. I enjoy helping my students discover the joy in learning each day.”

Lozano draws inspiration from several educators who made a significant impact on her life and who have all played pivotal roles in shaping her journey. She also credits her principal, Ms. Houston, as a great leader and role model, for her continued growth and development in the field. Her passion and positivity not only make her a valuable asset to the Hempstead Early Childhood Center but also an inspiration to the entire school community. “I love being in the classroom, it’s my passion, but I also enjoy being able to give support to my colleagues in any way possible. I enjoy learning from their experiences as well as sharing mine with them.”
