TELPAS Night

Hempstead ISD families are invited to attend a parent information meeting about the Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System (TELPAS), from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 15. The meeting will be held in the Hempstead Elementary Cafeteria, 1340 13th St. The meeting will provide parents with important information on the TELPAS assessment and how it is used to evaluate the English language proficiency of students in the district.

The TELPAS is a system that is used to assess the English Language proficiency of K-12 students who are identified as English Language Learners (ELLs) in Texas. The test measures students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English, and the results are used to determine the student's level of proficiency in the language.

During the meeting, parents will have an opportunity to hear from District leaders and TELPAS coordinators about the assessment, including what it measures, how it is administered, and how the results are used. They will also learn about the support and resources available to help Emerging Bilingual and ESL students improve their English language skills. TELPAS Night Flyer

"The TELPAS assessment is an important tool for evaluating the progress of our ELL students," Hempstead ISD Director of Bilingual and ESL, Margarita Paramore, said. "We want to make sure that our parents understand the assessment and how it is used to support their children's education."

The district encourages all parents of Bilingual and ESL students to attend the informational meeting on February 15 to learn more about the TELPAS assessment. Childcare for children older than three years old will be provided for parents who need it. Dinner will also be available.
