The Hempstead ISD Board of Trustees met on Monday, January 22. The pledges were led by Hempstead Middle School students, Cameron Hogan and Cadence Trimboli.
During the board meeting, Hempstead ISD Superintendent Herbert O’Neil recognized the Hempstead ISD Board of Trustees for School Board Recognition Month. Board members are unpaid volunteers, who work on behalf of students and staff. A special School Board Recognition Month video was shown to recognize the Board's dedication and commitment to our Bobcat students, staff, and families during the meeting. Additionally, Superintendent O’Neil recognized MLK DAY, January Students and Staff of the Month, and provided academic and extracurricular activity updates.
Our campuses have selected one student of the month from each grade level to be recognized for their excellence, efforts, and achievement in being outstanding students on campus.

The following information items were presented at the monthly board meeting.
Hempstead ISD Executive Director of Human Resources, MaBisha Stubblefield, presented a strategic plan update for Goal 2. Goal 2 of the five-year strategic plan, Learning & Leading to Higher Heights, focuses on investing in staff.
Hempstead ISD will consistently recruit, develop and retain a diverse and highly qualified staff committed to personal and professional growth focusing on student success
Stubblefield presented action steps that will help the District implement strategies created to achieve Goal 2. Several strategies are ongoing and have been implemented this Fall. Some of these strategies include:
Targeted recruitment and retention efforts
Development of mentorship programs
Offering ongoing professional development opportunities
Providing competitive compensation and benefits packages
Trustees Approve Action Items
During the January board meeting, Hempstead ISD Trustees approved the following action items:
Approved the Resolution for employee compensation for inclement weather on January 16, 2024
Approved the 2024-2025 District Calendar
The 2024-2025 District Calendar was approved during the January 22 board meeting. Hempstead ISD students will return to school on Monday, August 26, 2024. Teachers and campus staff will return on August 14 and teachers that are new to the district will report on August 12 for New Teacher Inservice.
The scheduled breaks on the calendar are Thanksgiving break from Nov. 25-29; winter break from Dec. 23 to Jan. 3, 2025; and spring break from March 10-14.
The calendar was drafted by the Hempstead ISD District Education Improvement Committee, which collected a variety of data and input from parents and district staff members. The district held a survey for community feedback in early January. View and download the 2024-2025 Academic Calendar
The February Board meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Monday, February 26, in the Administration Building Board Room.
