Hempstead Independent School District has named a new principal for Hempstead Middle School.
Erika Douglas, who most recently served as Secondary ELA Coordinator in Royal ISD. Douglas is not new to Hempstead or Hempstead Middle, she previously served as the middle school principal. Douglas holds a Bachelor's degree in Finance from the University of North Texas and a Master's in Educational Leadership from Lamar University.

She has held various roles throughout their career, including Reading/English Teacher, PE Teacher/Athletic Coach/Junior High Girls' Athletic Coordinator, Literacy Coach, Secondary Assistant Principal at both Junior High and High School levels, and Campus principal. Her educational background and leadership experience make her a great fit for leading Hempstead Middle School to Higher Heights.

Returning to Hempstead Middle School, Douglas hopes to foster an innovative, and inspiring educational environment where every student is empowered to reach their full potential.
"My commitment as principal is to lead Hempstead Middle School with dedication, transparency, and a relentless focus on creating an educational environment where every student can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally."
Excited about the 2024-2025 school year, Douglas looks forward to reconnecting with the community, building on past successes, witnessing student growth, collaborating with new and familiar staff, implementing new ideas, and driving academic excellence.
