Superintendent O'Neil at Bob Thompson Institute Graduation

Hempstead ISD Superintendent Herbert O’Neil has graduated from the nationally acclaimed Thompson Leadership Academy, completing more than 200 hours of advanced professional development focused on developing leadership skills in an educational setting.

The Thompson Executive Leadership Institute (TELI) Superintendent Academy is a nationally known advanced leadership development program for superintendents in Texas and surrounding states.

Reflecting on the experience, Superintendent O'Neil expressed, "The leadership academy is one of the best professional development institutes I have participated in my career. I learned a substantial amount of information about leadership and developing people."

The program is designed to challenge Superintendents’ critical thinking skills and allow for constructive collaboration between superintendents across the state.

A majority of the Hempstead ISD Board of Trustees joined O’Neil in one of the later sessions, which was designed to challenge the group to work together in developing leadership strategies that prioritize student success.

O’Neil now joins an alumni network of more than 800 superintendents from across the nation, both current and retired, who have also graduated from the leadership academy.
