Hempstead Elementary School has been nationally nominated for the Heart-Healthy School Award. Each year the campus participates in various American Heart Association activities to promote heart health and raise awareness of heart disease.
“Hempstead Elementary has been actively participating in the American Heart Association health heart challenges for years,” Camirey Jackson, Hempstead Middle School, P.E. teacher explained. “Last year we wanted to spread awareness beyond the elementary campus. We hosted the HES Heart Walk to get the Hempstead community up and moving to promote living a healthier lifestyle.”
During the walk, community members and families were able to get their blood pressure checked, learn about the different parts of their bodies, and donate to the Hempstead Elementary School Kids Heart Challenge. The walk was successful and the campus raised close to $2,000 for the American Heart Association.
Although Coach Jackson has moved to Hempstead Middle School for the 2023-2024 school year, she hopes the Heart Walk will have a bigger impact and turnout this year.
The Kids Heart Challenge & American Heart Challenge National Awards Ceremony will take place virtually on Tuesday, September 12.
