Hempstead Elementary School celebrated the joy of reading during National Book Month. The campus held a series of read alouds throughout the month of October to ignite the passion for literature across the campus.
National Book Month encourages students to explore the world of books but also fosters a love for reading that will last a lifetime. Throughout the month, students were treated to an array of exciting pop-up volunteer readers. Reading guests included district administrators, parents, and community members.
"National Book Month gives more opportunities to instill the love of reading in our students,” Hempstead Elementary School Principal, Dr. Brittanee Shiflett said. It's essential for their academic growth and personal development. By celebrating this month, we hope to inspire a lifelong love for books and learning."
As National Book Month came to a close, the school remains committed to nurturing the joy of reading each day. In November, the campus will be opening a Little FREE STEAM Library filled with books celebrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. The library will sit in front of the school to expand access to books in the community.
