On Friday, January 17, Hempstead Elementary students were celebrated with a special VIP lunch after being named top academic achievers during a campuswide Winter Break academic challenge. The top five IXL earners for each grade level were recognized.
The challenge invited all HES students to participate in IXL, an online PK-12 learning program designed to provide personalized practice in various subjects for students. During the break, students were encouraged to spend time completing on-grade-level reading and math questions through the platform.
The students honored as top earners went above and beyond in their participation, logging the most time and effort into mastering math and reading concepts. Their commitment not only showcased their enthusiasm for learning but also reflected their ability to tackle more challenging material. By focusing on achieving higher "SmartScores" within specific skill areas, these students demonstrated a deeper understanding and mastery of the subjects.
“The purpose of this challenge was to provide our students with an opportunity to strengthen their math and reading skills in a meaningful and enjoyable way,” Dr. Brittanee Shiflett, HES principal explained. “We are incredibly proud of their hard work and determination and are happy to celebrate them.”
The VIP lunch served as a way to recognize these students' achievements and motivate others to embrace similar challenges in the future. Students were treated to McDonald’s during their lunch.
Academic challenges are just one part of the school's ongoing academic initiatives. Programs like IXL aim to build a solid foundation for student success and foster a love of lifelong learning.
Congratulations to all the students who participated and to the top achievers for their outstanding efforts.
