HHS Students receive CTE

Seven Hempstead High School students have achieved a significant milestone by earning industry-based certifications in Equine Management & Evaluation. This accomplishment is one example of how Hempstead ISD is committed to providing a high quality education and practical skills for Career and Technical Education (CTE) students.

Before winter break, Savannah Madison, HHS Equine Science teacher, helped the students to prepare for the rigorous testing. The results were nothing short of remarkable, as all seven students passed the assessment securing their Equine Management & Evaluation Certifications. The students completed the semester-long Equine Science course to prepare them for the certification test. The exam was 100 questions long covering topics such as breeds, equine disease, anatomy & physiology, equine nutrition and health, and various aspects of showmanship. This certification is highly valued in the equine industry, reflecting the students' proficiency in various aspects of equine care and management.

"What's phenomenal about these students is the depth of knowledge they possess. Equine Management and Showmanship are complicated and nuanced topics,” Coordinator of Advanced Academics and CTE, Diana Wood said. “ To be 15 or 16 years old and demonstrating knowledge at the level of experienced adults is very impressive.”

The Equine Management & Evaluation Certification not only validates the students' knowledge but also prepares them for potential careers in the equine industry. The comprehensive curriculum ensures that graduates are well-equipped to navigate the complexities of managing and caring for horses, making them valuable assets to the industry.

By offering CTE courses and preparing students for industry-based certifications, the district aims to bridge the gap between education and real-world application, preparing students for successful futures in their chosen fields.
