The award-winning Hempstead Theatre Company is selling 2024 UIL OAP t-shirts. This year, the theatre students will be taking on the story of "Equus" by Peter Shaffer.
"Equus" is a captivating play that explores the intricate psyche of a troubled young man named Alan Strang, who has committed a disturbing act of violence against horses. As psychiatrist Martin Dysart delves into Alan's mind to uncover the motives behind the crime, he unravels a complex tapestry of passion, spirituality, and the consequences of societal expectations. The play raises profound questions about the nature of normalcy, the clash between personal desires and societal norms, and the transformative power of human connection.
The first district contest is scheduled for Thursday, March 7, at Bay City High School in Bay City, Texas. The contest kicks off at. Hempstead HS Theatre will be competing against six other schools: Van Vleck, East Bernard, Boling, Hitchcock, Danbury, and Brazos. Of the seven schools, only three will advance to the bi-district contest.
