Senior Bobcats at Hempstead High School are looking forward to their futures and signed their letters of intent to participate in sports and continue their studies at their chosen colleges and universities. Two Hempstead High School student-athletes signed to play baseball and compete in track and field.
Hempstead ISD Athletic Director/Head Football Coach, Markeith Wesley, helped to congratulate both students and their families on their achievements.
“This is a big day for our students signing and the Hempstead High School community,” Wesley said. “Both athletes are a testament to what hard work and dedication look like. We are very proud of them.”
During the Signing Day event, both student-athletes took turns in the Hempstead High School competition gym to announce their schools of choice, with teammates and Bobcat peers, staff, family, and community members.
Kelvin Jackson Jr.
Wiley College
Senior Kelvin Jackson Jr. has been playing baseball since little league days. During the ceremony, his friend described him as a perfectionist, due to his balance of achieving both on the field and in the classroom.
“I don’t accept failure and lack of effort,” Jackson said. “I work hard to perform my best in everything you do. Being a perfectionist isn’t a negative thing. It means you show up for yourself and you are constantly working to improve yourself.”
When asked how he balances his busy schedule, Jackson expressed that he is a student first before he is an athlete. Accepting anything less than an A is not an option for him. He plans to take this mindset to Wiley College in the Fall.

“My family keeps me going,” Kinsey said. “When I think about my family, it reminds that they have always taught me to push through no matter what.”
Kinsey’s love for her sport spills over into her team. Her friend and teammate explained that her presence on the team is appreciated. She looks forward to working hard in college and improving her skills at the collegiate level.
