Hempstead ISD is thrilled to announce the start of construction on the Bobcat Stadium track and field, marking the first major project of Bond 2024, which was approved by voters in May. This exciting development reflects the community’s commitment to creating safe facilities that support student success in academics, fine arts, and athletics.
The existing track and field, originally built in 1997, will be completely replaced alongside the current grass field, which will be upgraded to synthetic turf. The updated facilities will serve multiple sports teams, the band, and the dance and drill team throughout the school year, creating a space for both practice and competition.
Construction officially began on November 19 and is estimated to take 4 to 6 months to complete. During this time, the Bobcat Stadium track and field will be closed. This project will impact our upcoming soccer and track and field programs. The district will share an official soccer schedule as soon as it becomes available.
The track and field renovation is just one part of the facility improvements included in Bond 2024. Hempstead ISD began the schematic design phase of the bond work in September and has been meeting weekly with campus leaders, architects, and construction managers to ensure the success of the projects.
In addition to the Bobcat Stadium upgrades, Bond 2024 projects include:
A new Early Childhood Center,
Enclosed campus connectors at the elementary school and middle school,
A new roof and gym at the middle school,
A new cafeteria and band hall at the high school,
A new Baseball Field concession/restroom building and
Replacement of A/C units districtwide.
Hempstead ISD is excited to bring these safety and security enhancements to life and appreciates the community’s continued support.
