January 29

Hempstead High School leaders are hosting an information night to educate students and families about dual credit and college financial aid opportunities. The meeting will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, in the Hempstead High School Library.

Dual Credit allows eligible high school students to earn college credit while working towards high school graduation. This opportunity gives students a jumpstart on their college career and allows their families to save money.

FAFSA is a free online appliance that students can use to apply for Federal Financial Aid, including grants, loans, and work-study.  Filling out this application has many benefits for students interested in higher education. From accessing financial aid to helping families plan for college expenses, creating peace of mind for families.

According to a 2023 EdTech article about dual enrollment, 981,842 students under the age of 18 are enrolled in college courses.

Benefits of Enrolling in Dual Credit Courses:

  1. Cost Savings: Dual credit courses are typically offered at a fraction of the cost of regular college courses.

  2. Time Efficiency: Students can earn college credits while still in high school, potentially reducing the time needed to complete a degree.

  3. College Readiness: These courses prepare students for the rigor of college-level work, giving them a head start on academic success.

  4. Increased Scholarship Opportunities: Completing dual credit courses shows dedication to education, which can stand out on scholarship applications.

  5. Career Exploration: Students can explore potential college majors and career paths in a low-risk environment.

All high school students and their families are encouraged to attend this event. Whether you're planning to pursue college after graduation or are just starting to think about your options, this session will provide valuable information to help guide your decisions.
