The Hempstead ISD Board of Trustees met on Monday, December 16.
Before the start of the December board meeting, Leahne Smith, Hempstead High School student, led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Pledge to the Texas Flag. During the meeting, the December Students, Campus Teachers, and Support Staff of the Month were celebrated.
The December board meeting began with a Public Hearing of the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) Report. Hempstead ISD received a Superior Rating, supporting the districtās continued commitment to effective financial management.

Each campus selects one student of the month from each grade level to be recognized for their excellence, efforts, and achievement in being outstanding students on campus.

Superintendentās Higher Heights Award
The December Superintendentās Higher Heights Award Recipient is Adriana Conde, an Emergent Bilingual Paraprofessional at Hempstead Middle School.
Representatives from the district partner, Grand Canyon University, recognized district employees participating in the GCU programs to help district staff complete their undergraduate degrees and become certified teachers.
Information Items
During the meeting, Otilia Gonzales, representative from Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins and Mott LLP, presented the Hempstead ISD delinquent tax collection report. Then, Hempstead ISD Executive Director of Human Resources, MaBisha Stubblefield, presented Strategic Plan Goal 2 updates. Goal 2 focused on consistently recruiting, developing, and retaining a diverse and highly qualified staff committed to personal and professional growth focusing on student success. The updates focused on providing opportunities for staff celebrations and fellowship to increase retention rates, establishing partnerships to develop and recruit highly qualified teachers, and providing opportunities for staff to be able to have a voice.
The following action items were approved during the meeting:
Approved the Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ending August 31, 2024
Approved Resolution for Annual Review and Adoption of Investment Policy (CDA-Local)
Approved date change to January 2025 Regular Board Meeting due to calendar conflict.
The December Board meeting will be held on Monday, January 21, and will begin at 6 p.m. in the Administration Building Board Room.
